Culinary castles route

The Veluwe is teeming with castles and estates, where there is plenty to do. Each location is unique for a different reason. Go on a discovery tour within the old castle walls or take a walk through the beautiful gardens. With this cycling route through the Veluwe landscape, you will pass three estates where you can enjoy good food and drinks in a special atmosphere.
Get off your bike at Staverden estate and enjoy a refreshing drink on the brasserie's award-winning terrace. Or order a picnic basket in advance and look for a nice spot in the castle garden to feast on all the goodies. On a 17th-century authentic estate of Kasteel De Vanenburg, the staff will be happy to let you enjoy a delicious lunch, for example. A little further north on the Veluwe, you cycle past Essenburgh Castle. Dive the vault here
Zuiderzee route
The entire route is approximately 53 kilometers
On the north side of the Veluwe, the former Zuiderzee was both a friend and an enemy of the inhabitants of this area. Proceeds from fishing were associated with losses due to flooding. The centuries-long struggle that the inhabitants of the Veluwe waged against the Zuiderzee is still clearly visible today. Especially in one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands, Arkemheen, a special landscape emerged over the years. Swaying the tidal currents of the Zuiderzee caused winding ditches. This original subdivision structure is still visible. In addition, dike breakthroughs, the last of which took place in 1916, created swamps and reed beds.
