Putten in Oct. '44 was the scene of the worst act of revenge committed by Germans in the Netherlands in World War II. 659 men were taken away to the concentration camp in Amersfoort. In memory of the victims of the raid, the monument “The Woman of Putten” was unveiled. Opposite the monument is the Memorial Space 'October '44'. In this Room of Remembrance the story of the raid is told in words and images.
October '44 is only ten minutes away by car from Kasteel De Vanenburg. It is certainly worth checking out this retrospective in history.
